There are bars to stop in for a cocktail and several restaurants including one facing the beach. About a half-hour drive north of Bavaro, you will find the beautiful underdeveloped Macao Beach. Drive straight through the tiny town of El Macio. After the crest of the hill, you will see a lovely beach. Macao is popular with surfers, and you can take surfing lessons if need be at the Macao Surf Camp. There are also a few excellent restaurants on the beach.
The wide, sandy beach slopes down to shallow water of a beautiful turquoise color. If you love seclusion, be sure to check out the beach at Uvero Alto. The beach is rather secluded except to the high-end resorts nearby.
With its lush green coconut forest near the shore, you are likely to find yourself alone except for members of a horseback riding tour. You can access this beach from highway traveling from Macao to Miches or Laguna de Nisibon. The azure water is calm and clear. You will find an excellent restaurant and bar here.

Currently the farthest north of Punta Cana beaches , Uvero Alto is not a well-known beach area. Unless you are staying in one of the secluded high-end resorts in this area, you likely will never know about it. The area outside of the resorts and hotels is relatively undeveloped and with nowhere else to eat or shop.
This area is the newest touristic development of the country and new resorts are going to open in the near future.

Hello, this is so helpful! We came last year to Melia Caribe Tropical and found the water to be the same as in the US however when we traveled to Saona Island, it was beautiful! Is there a beach in the DR that matches that water? Turquoise and clear. Punta Cana faces the Atlantic Sea and the water is not really crystalline except maybe in the area of Playa Blanca. Moving to the south of the country is much more better as that part of the Dominican Republic faces the Caribbean Sea.
