What do authors write at book signings

If you chatted before a speaking engagement, you might mention that. God makes the impossible possible! Happy reading! However, you can write more if you want to. But I hope you enjoy! Good luck on your literary journey! Let us be the angels! His Signature and the angels phrase written in marker are what he puts on every book he signs because The Never Prayer is about angels on Earth and teens faced with good and evil manipulating their emotions.

You might get even more personal when signing a copy for a family member or close friend. Most of my signed books have the signatures on the title page. A couple are on the dedication page, where the author had more space. The title page is the conventional place to sign, but think about how much space you need before you start signing. If you plan on a minimalist approach, a title page works. If you have a signing planned, make sure you have a table and chair in a suitable environment.

Your signing area should be easy to access and covered. Then make sure you have plenty of pens. If you have a line, send the sticky note and a pen down the line, so fans have their name ready when they get to you. And remember people are more likely to recommend your book if they feel a connection with you, so take a moment to chat with the people asking for your signature. Ask about them. What do they like to read?

Where are they from? Will you go minimalist, add a phrase from your book, or try and pen a personal note to everyone to Ignite Your Ink? Use this checklist to hook, captivate, and leave an impact on your readers. We are 18 degrees tonight. You are likely zero! Stay warm. By the way, I finally joined Facebook! Voted up and awesome. Thank you very much for providing us all with those links to companies that are working on the eBook signing computer programs. After visiting their Web sites, I can see that they are thinking of real signatures and real comments, etc. It seems that they believe in setting up files with downloadable signatures and paragraphs and the like. One seems to prefer appending "standardized" items to eBooks to accomplish this, and the other describes something that reads like the signature material is separate from actual eBooks and can be separately transmitted to customers for loading onto their eBook tablets, such as Kindles.

What I was thinking about was much like the "eBook signings" via streaming videos and the like, but personalized signings. This is going to be a fun project, and I would bet that there are some HubPages members who might be able to come up with answers far faster than could this old man. Hi all. I am moving Gus to the head of the comment line. I just do not want to lose my great links. Gus, here are some great innovations for you to research. Oh how very wonderful of a hub you have written!!

I could only hope that some day some one would want my signature autograph. You are so right about the smiles. I work with people throughout the day; so much so that sometimes I completely forget to have lunch. Believe it or not it might appear to us that we are tired and exhausted but every person is a new experience. If you stand in a line for 7 hours; you meet people; each one of those people will know you through their experience of your 'service'.

This was so much fun to read! I love all the information and tips. I agree that authors should do their utmost to respect their fans. Rowlings, then you can insist on taking time to chat with your fans. After all, without them, you are nothing. Great job with this hub and I wish you all the luck in the world!

It is so wonderful to see someone achieve their goals! Not thinking of using computer-generated script lettering like I did in my first " Dumb Poems" eBook, but a real, personal signature in the author's own handwriting.

Maybe even with some inscriptions, etc. Something to think about, what with the way the book publishing business is going.

Will people even want their eBooks signed? I have a couple of ideas on the subject. Please log in with your username or email to continue. No account yet? Create an account. Edit this Article. We use cookies to make wikiHow great.

If your regular signature is not legible or interesting, you should come up with a new one to sign your books with. You want people to be able to tell who signed the book, it could be worth something someday!

Make sure your signature includes both your first and last name. Look at some examples of calligraphy online or in a book of fonts to find a style you like. Practice your new signature until you can do it without thinking. You should be able to autograph with your new signature quickly and consistently without too much effort. Start by practicing just the capital letters until you have them down, then practice signing the whole signature over and over again.

Practice in your spare time on a blank notepad until you perfect it. Use a good quality pen with blue or black ink. Choose a pen that you are comfortable signing with repeatedly, and buy a few of them for when you inevitably run out of ink.

Make sure the ink of whatever pen you choose dries quickly so it does not smear on the page of the book. It just gave the impression that his readers were not valued or respected. I left the event feeling negative about the author, despite his talk having been first-rate. Debbie, this information give me everything I need for my first book signing for my first book written at the age of Also, I will use your idea of using Post-it notes to have people write their name so each one is spelled correctly.

Thank you. Thank you for compiling this helpful information. You covered some very important preparations and also made wonderful suggestions to be more personal and considerate to the buyers and fans. I look forward to creating a fun event now, instead of feeling anxiety over this new frontier. Thank you! Thank you so much for this useful information. Just published my first book and in the process of arranging a book signing session. Love the post-it note and general set-up ideas. Great tips!
